It had the feel like the Analy Tigers were reliving a bad dream. For the second straight season they were undefeated Sonoma County League baseball champions, but the way things were starting out and for the second straight season, they were going to lose their first game of the SCL Post Season Tournament.
Not this time.
After falling behind Piner 3-0 in the third inning, Analy scored in every inning the rest of the way to take a 6-3 win.
It didn’t take long for the nervousness of repeat of 2012 to kick in for Analy. A wild pitch and an RBI single by Dylan Currin gave Piner a 2-0 first inning lead. Another RBI hit by Niko Formosa make it a 3-0 game in the third.
Analy got back in the game in the third. Garrett Hill drove in twin brother Evan to get Analy on the board and Garrett would score to cut the lead to 3-2.
That got the momentum going for the Tigers. Devon Ogston tied the game with an RBI single in the fourth and then they would take the lead for good on a RBI single by Kyle Earley in the fifth.
Grant St. Martin pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief to raise his record to 5-0. Analy carried a 6-3 lead into the 7th, when Piner loaded the bases with two outs. Evan Hill came into the get a three pitch strikeout to pick up his second save.
The win gives Analy a 21-5 record and a fifteen game winning streak. It also puts them into the championship game this Friday against the winner of tonight’s Sonoma Valley-Petaluma game.
OTHER SCL CHAMPION WINS
The Petaluma Softball team raises its winning streak to eleven straight, as they defeat El Molino 4-1 to advance to the SCL post season championship game.
After giving up a run in the first to fall behind 1-0, Emily O’ Keefe pitched six shutout innings and struck out eight as she raises her record to 10-3.
Joelle Krist hit a solo homer to close out the scoring in the sixth. It was her 11th of the season.
The second first round game will be this afternoon with Sonoma Valley at Analy. The winner of that game will meet Petaluma on Friday at Analy High School.
