PGA Hope comes to Bennett Valley

Bennett Valley is currently offering a seven-week PGA HOPE program, according to head pro CJ Snyder.

According to the PGA, “PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America. PGA HOPE introduces golf to Veterans and Active Duty Military to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The program introduces the game of golf through a developmental 6-8 week curriculum, led by PGA Pro s trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency.

Head Pro CJ Snyder welcomes PGA HOPE to Bennett Valley GC

“All programs are funded by PGA REACH and supplemented by PGA Section Foundations, so the cost of programming is free to all Veterans. PGA HOPE has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which enables direct referrals to the PGA HOPE program as a form of therapy.

It’s a 7-week program that takes place every Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The program started March 13 and concludes April 24.

The final session will be on the golf course, where participants will play a 9-hole scramble followed by lunch and a graduation ceremony.

“I’m honored to be participating in this great program . . .  I’m so grateful and thankful for their service. We can never give back what they’ve given to us, but if I can give them some joy through the game of golf, I want to do that,” says CJ, also the assistant GM at Bennett Valley.

“Our main goal with this program is to bring our Veterans/Service Members together in the community. Golf is secondary.”

According to the mission statement: “Our mission is to use golf as a rehabilitative tool to help Veterans and Active Duty Servicemembers overcome life’s adversities and improve their physical, mental, emotional and social well-being. Our goals are to:

PGA HOPE participants take part in the first session at Bennett Valley
  • Create a safe environment for PGA HOPE participants and establish relationships of trust with PGA Professionals in their local community
  • Have fun and encourage a culture of comradery
  • Build a community of Veterans/Service Members who enjoy golf together
  • Teach the basics of golf including etiquette and course management
  • Empower PGA HOPE Participants to feel confident playing golf on their own after the program
