A new face on Foxtail staff . . .

Foxtail Golf Club has announced a new full-time Teaching Professional.

Jeff Sorkness was born and raised in Santa Rosa, where he attended both Santa Rosa High School and Santa Rosa Junior College.

Jeff Sorkness

. In 1990, he was awarded a track scholarship to attend Arizona State University. He stayed in Arizona to raise his two sons, and he continues to live there part of the year.

Jeff was taught under the tutelage of Tim Mahoney of the Golf Digest Schools, Scott Sackett of the Jim McLean Golf Academy, Mike Malaska, a Golf Digest magazine’s top 100 golf instructor, and Michael Lamanna currently at The Phoenician Golf Club. Jeff has been a Class ‘A’ golf professional since 2001.

“He is a teaching professional committed to guiding all golfers, whether a beginner or one with years of experience, to a better understanding of their golf swing. He believes in focusing on the fundamentals of the game by relaying the information in its simplest form,” according to Foxtail.

Jeff is returning to Sonoma County after teaching in Arizona, specifically at the Phoenician for the past 4 years. If you are interested in learning more, contact him at

The PGA Hope Clinic staged at Bennett Valley GC has wrapped up, but the good feelings and memories will live on for a long time.

We just concluded our 7-week PGA Hope Clinic,” explained BV Head Pro CJ Snyder. “Our final session was on the golf course. We played a 9-hole scramble with a pro playing in each group.

“After the scramble, we had a graduation ceremony on the patio for attendees that participated in four or more classes. They received a PGA Hope polo and a graduation certificate.

“It was a great experience for everybody involved. We have another session scheduled for this Fall . . . classes will start in September.”
