Analy at Petaluma
Petaluma at Analy
Two schools, two games, two sports and both having a major effect on the league races they are in.
The Sonoma County League baseball and softball race has a turning point on Tuesday as the top teams in each meet for the lead.
The games just happen to be between the same schools.
BASEBALL GAME AT PETALUMA
Petaluma tries to get it season back on track. They went into last week with a five game winning streak and lost two 9-4 games. In each game they fell behind early, made a rally, then a big sixth inning settled things.
Petaluma has been on the brink before during this season. After winning its opener they lost seven straight.
Analy also started the season off slowly with a 2-2 start. Then came a 21-3 win over Terra Linda and they were off. They won ten straight, a streak that was snapped last week when they lost a non-league to Drake 3-0.
The biggest win of the season for Analy was the first league game of the year when they rallied from 5-0 down to defeat defending champions Sonoma Valley 6-5, scoring a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth to get close and then scoring three in the seventh after two were out to win it.
Analy is at Sonoma Valley on Friday.
This is a resurgence season of sorts for Analy, who hasn’t finished over .500 since 2009. Between then and now they had a 4-19 record in 2011.
The two teams have met before in the second round of the Montgomery tournament. Analy took that game 5-1 on its way to the tournament championship. The next game Petaluma started the five game winning streak that was snapped last week.
SOFTBALL GAME AT ANALY
No. 1 at No. 2 with a combined record of 25-4.
That they are playing for the top of the league is nothing new. This season is a tie-breaker of sorts between the two schools. They have finished 1-2 in the league standings the last three seasons with each team winning one title and the two schools tying for the other.
Petaluma went 2-0 vs. Analy in 2012 and won the title.
Analy went 2-0 vs. Petaluma in 2010 and won the title.
In 2011 they split the two games and split the title.
After losing its opener, Petaluma has won twelve straight.
Analy has won five straight since dropping the first two games of a tournament in Napa.
