San Mateo — Notes on the official 2014 California Community College Football Coaches Association state poll, as compiled by the JC Athletic Bureau. (110314)
Unbeaten and top ranked American River College faces two final NorCal league challenges in Sacramento in its quest to enter the CCCAA state playoffs with home field advantage in the north. The Beavers (3-0 NorCal) host defending state champion 8 Butte (3-0) Saturday and then close at crosstown rival No. 19 Sacramento Nov. 15.
All of the National (state championship) Division races are into the final two weeks. Four teams from each region will make the playoffs — three league champs (No. 1 teams) plus a wildcard.
Southern California Football Association outlook heading into Nov. 8 games (with league records): Central: No. 3 Riverside (4-0) at No. 15 Chaffey (3-1) Saturday could determine that league’s top playoff team. Three others have two losses and remain in contention — including Citrus, which visits RCC in the finale.
Southern: No. 6 Fullerton (5-0), 2013 state runner-up, has clinched the league’s top spot and finishes Saturday, hosting Palomar (2-2). No. 9 Golden West (3-1), still in contention for a state wild card and possible title tie, visits rival Orange Coast (1-3) and then hosts Saddleback (3-2). Northern: No. 12 Ventura (4-0) has a 2-game lead but plays two of the four remaining contenders: hosting Hancock (2-2) and then visiting Bakersfield (2-2).
Northern California Football Conference National outlook:
Bay 6: No. 2 San Mateo (3-0) hosts No. 10 Diablo Valley (2-1) Saturday and then closes at No. 4 CCSF (3-0). No. 11 Santa Rosa (1-2) closes at DVC on Nov. 14. Valley: No. 13 Laney (3-0) hosts Delta (1-2) Friday and closes at No. 25 Chabot (2-1) on Nov. 15. No. 18 Fresno (2-1) hosts Modesto (1-2) and visits Sequoias (0-3) in the finale. NorCal: (See notes in lead story above.)
–Winners of the two American Division leagues in each region expect to meet in regional bowls: SCFA: Pacific 5-0 co-leaders meet Saturday, Santa Barbara at Santa Monica. Glendale (4-1) will be at Santa Monica in a Nov. 15 finale. Mountain: No. 17 Victor Valley (5-0) can wrap-up title against visiting Desert (3-2) Sat. NCFC: Golden Coast: No. 16 West Hills (4-0) hosts Merced (3-1) and visits No. 24 Hartnell final two weeks. Pacific 7 leader Contra Costa (4-0) has already defeated closest challengers.
