Outside of Casa Grande, the football season is over and here comes basketball.

This is the first weekend of tournament action. 

Locally Montgomery, Anderson Valley and Ukiah are hosting a Boys Tournament and Sonoma Valley and Casa Grande a Girls Tourney.

Winner Bracket games at 7 pm at 8:30

SATURDAY

1 pm—7th place game

2:30—Consolation Game

4 pm—3rd place game

5:30—Championship Game

Monte Vista has hit the twenty win mark for the past two seasons.  In each of those years in the East League, they have finished in second place two games behind De La Salle

Redwood is from the Marin County League and has started out 1-2.  One of the losses was to Maria Carrillo, the other a 93-91 loss to Pinole Valley.

Cardinal Newman is coming off one of its best seasons of all time but lost a lot of that team.   The Cardinals opened the season on Tuesday with a 51-49 loss to Analy.

The Liberty team that Cardinal Newman is meeting is from Bakersfield.   They are called the Patriots and had a streak of four straight 20 win seasons snapped last year when they went 17-11.  They lost in the consolation game of this tournament last year.

Campolindo is constantly a twenty win team and won the NCS Division 3 Championship in 2008.  They go into the season considered one of the best teams in Division 3.

Vista Del Lago is from Folsom and is coached by Matt von Tillow who played went to and played for Montgomery in the early part of the century.

California is from San Ramon and its football team is playing De La Salle for the NCS Division 1 championship on Saturday Night.  The basketball team hasn’t finished over .500 since 2010.

The host Montgomery team was ranked No. 2 in the final YSN365.com last season and has most of its players coming back.  This could be a good year for Montgomery basketball.

Thursday’s 4pm and 7 pm are matchup to meet in the second round as are the 5:30 and 8:30 games.  That is why on the schedule above it is out of order on what time the games will be played.

Also this weekend is the 56th annual Redwood Classic in Boonville which has some of the top small school teams in the state.   It is a 16 team tournament which includes Cloverdale and St. Vincent.

Farther it is the 44th Annual Fred Iten Invitational in Ukiah.

THURSDAY SCHEDULE

3:30…Piner vs. San Lorenzo

5 pm…Fort Bragg vs. Fortuna

6:30…Ukiah vs. Petaluma

8 pm…Maria Carrillo vs. Dougherty Valley

Friday the games start at 3:30, Saturday at 12:30 with the seventh place game.  The Championship game will be at 5.

On the girls side it is the 17th Annual Dragon Classic at Sonoma Valley.

Casa Grande Girls are hosting a four team round robin tournament starting on Thursday.   Each day there will be a doubleheader starting at 6 pm on Thursday and Friday and at 2:30 on Saturday Afternoon.  

Casa Grande will play the second game each day meeting Eureka on Thursday, Redwood on Friday and wrapping up the tournament on Saturday, ironically against Miramonte. 

It seems those two school have a football game that night also.
