San Mateo (Oct. 26, 2015) – Long Beach City College remains the No. 1 football team in the California Community College Athletic Association following a bye week, according to the JC Athletic Bureau’s poll of football coaches. The Vikings (7-0) have a Saturday showdown at defending National Central champion No. 10 Riverside City College (5-2), which is coming off a 20-17 setback at reigning state champion Mt. San Antonio. There’s the potential of a 4-way tie for first in the league (also involving El Camino) if RCC pulls the upset.
National Southern leader No. 2 Golden West (7-0) is the only other undefeated team in the National (state championship) Division and visits Palomar Saturday. No. 4 Cerritos (7-1) and No. 5 Canyons (6-1) are perfect in National Northern play and meet in the Nov. 14 finale in Norwalk. No. 14 Ventura, a game back, could shake things up Saturday at Canyons.
No. 3 City College of San Francisco (6-1) continues to lead Northern California after beating Santa Rosa, 26-16, in a Bay 6 crucial. That sets-up Saturday’s showdown with No. 17 Diablo Valley at CCSF. Both teams are 2-0 in league. The Valley also has its 2-0 teams clashing for the undisputed lead: No. 6 Modesto at No. 11 Chabot. Also meeting are 1-1 contenders Delta at No. 18 Fresno. The NorCal league leaders clash with 1-game back challengers: Sierra at No. 7 American River and No. 16 Butte at Sacramento.
Saturday’s American Division match-ups: Mountain: Mt. San Jacinto at No. 25 Victor Valley, Desert at Southwestern, No. 24 San Bernardino at Compton, East LA at San Diego Mesa; Pacific: LA Southwest at No. 22 Santa Monica, LA Pierce at LA Valley, Antelope Valley at Santa Barbara, Glendale at West LA; Pacific 7: No. 20 Contra Costa at Shasta, Los Medanos at Redwoods, San Jose at Mendocino; Golden Coast: No. 21 Hartnell at Gavilan, Cabrillo at West Hills, Merced at Reedley.
