34 Games On Tap In USA’s Largest CC Football Assn:
Defending state champion Mt. San Antonio College opens the 2015 California Community College Athletic Association football season Saturday (Sept. 5) hosting College of the Canyons at 6 p.m. at Walnut High School.
City College of San Francisco, the 2014 state runner-up, opens on Saturday afternoon at Sierra College in Rocklin at 1 p.m. and has a new coach, Jimmy Collins. The former CCSF quarterback replaces George Rush — who retired after winning a record six state crowns and also finishing second eight times from 1997 to 2014. The Rams have played in the state finals 14 of the 18 years since championship games resumed in 1997.
There will be 34 games this weekend in the USA’s largest community college football association. The state opener on Friday night (Sept. 4) finds Sacramento City College at National Valley co-champion Laney at 7 p.m.
Four-time state champ Mt. SAC (11-2 in 2014) was ranked No. 1 by coaches in the JC Athletic Bureau’s preseason poll, followed by CCSF (11-2), Riverside (10-2), American River (10-2) and Fullerton (8-3). Others in the top ten: 6. San Mateo, 7. Long Beach, 8. Butte, 9. Diablo Valley, 10. Cerritos.
Other Saturday non-conference “top 10” openers in Southern California include: National Central champion Riverside at Bakersfield, National Southern champ Fullerton at National Northern winner Ventura, Long Beach at Moorpark, Cerritos at Saddleback, Golden West at Los Angeles Harbor, American Pacific champ Santa Monica at Desert — all at 6 p.m.;
also West Los Angeles at American Mountain champion Victor Valley (1 p.m.) and Southwestern at Grossmont (3 p.m.).
Saturday’s Northern California “top 10” lid-lifters include: National NorCal co-champion American River at Modesto (6 p.m.), San Mateo at Siskiyous (1 p.m.), National NorCal co-champ Butte at National Valley co-champ Chabot (6:30 p.m.), Cabrillo at American Pacific 7 champion Contra Costa (3 p.m.), American Golden Coast co-champ West Hills at San Jose (7 p.m.), American Golden Coast co-champ Hartnell at Yuba (6 p.m.), Diablo Valley at Feather River (5 p.m.), San Joaquin Delta at Santa Rosa (5 p.m.), and Fresno at De Anza (2 p.m.),

State Champ Mt. San Antonio Picked to Repeat, CCSF No. 2 
 
    San MateoMt. San Antonio College is favored to repeat as California Community College Athletic Association football champion in 2015, according to the annual preseason poll of California Community College football coaches conducted by the JC Athletic Bureau.
The Mounties (11-2) won their fourth CCCAA state title in 2014 with a 27-17 win over 6-time champ City College of San Francisco (11-2). CCSF is No. 2 in the poll, just ahead of Riverside (10-2). Riverside was the poll leader at the end of the regular season but fell to Mt. SAC in the Southern California finals.
Other predicted top contenders in 2015 are No. 4 American River, No. 5 Fullerton (8-3), No. 6 San Mateo (9-2), and No. 7 Long Beach (9-2). Rounding out the top ten are 2013 champ Butte (7-4), Diablo Valley (7-4), and Cerritos (8-3).
Mt. SAC was the No. 5 pick in the 2014 preseason poll – which was headed by Butte. CCSF was No. 6. Mt. SAC enters the 2015 campaign with a 5-game win streak.

PRESEASON 2015 JCAB Poll of CCCFCA Coaches
 The Top 25 teams in the JC Athletic Bureau’s PRESEASON State Poll of California Community College Football Coaches, with first-place votes in brackets, 2014 won-loss  records,  total points ( based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote), and previous ranking.
Final poll is also used in the NATYCAA Cup all-sports rankings for football.
