A rivalry game that was unlike any other when it was played. Both teams were in the Sonoma County League, and a mandatory meeting was required.
When Casa Grande moved to the NBL for the 2012 season, the Egg Bowl was stopped. For the history of the series, The first game between Casa Grande and Petaluma was played in 1974 and won by Casa Grande, 9-0.
Through 1992, Petaluma won 14 of the next 18 games. In 1993, the game was first called the Egg Bowl. It was won by Petaluma, 27-13. 1988-1997, Petaluma won 10 straight games. 2003-2007 were owned by Casa Grande, as was 2010-2011. Petaluma owns the all time series score 23-14 overall.
Petaluma comes off a monumental win over Terra Linda, a game in which the Trojans trailed by 16 points three different times. Fullback Jacob Rollstin had five touchdowns and an interception. Quarterback Justin Wolbert also had two touchdown runs in the game.
The Petaluma offense has been rolling this season, averaging 52 points a game in the first three games of the season. The offensive line has paved the way as they’ve rushed for 300 yards in all three games.
For Casa Grande, Kenneth Fitzgerald has been a force to be reckoned with this season. With a big build and size, he will be tough to stop. He has 126 total yards in their first two games of the season. Jance Offerman has been throwing the ball well for the Gauchos, completing 11-21 passes for 193 yards on the year. Casa Grande should have some success in a balanced offense if executed
