As we move into post season play for some leagues, this probably looks familiar.
No. 1 Cardinal Newman (21-5) (Last Week No. 1)…Wraps up a dominating run through the NBL season. Looks like a No. 3 seed in the NCS Division 4 playoffs.
No. 2 Santa Rosa (19-7) (2)… Only losses in league play were both to Cardinal Newman. Might get another shot at them in the NBL post season championship game. If they do, they will have a twenty win season for the fourth time in five years.
No. 3 Sonoma Valley (21-5) (3)…Takes the SCL championship and has the most wins in school history.
League champion or not, they aren’t guaranteed a home game in the NCS playoff, which adds some meaning to the SCL post season tournament.
No. 4 Petaluma (19-6) (4)…They did split with Sonoma Valley, but a loss to Analy cost them a co-championship. If they can beat Analy and make it to the Championship Game, they will hit the twenty win mark for the second time in three years. Last season they went 19-11.
No. 5 Analy (17-9) (5) …They are probably disappointed with the third place finish in the SCL race. They were a combined 1-3 against Sonoma Valley and Petaluma; the three losses by a combined nine points. The Tigers are a Division 2 team for the first time and will probably have to go on the road for the NCS.
No. 6 Middletown (18-6) (6)…The NCL I doesn’t have a post season tournament and wraps up league play this week with two games. One win gives them their first league championship since 2008. If they can get both wins, they hit the twenty win mark for the first time in the Max Preps era which began in 2005. They are on the bubble for a first round home game in the NCS Division 4 playoffs.
No. 7 Windsor (16-10) (7) …Gets credit for a two win week, one of them a forfeit win over Maria Carrillo. They are looking solid for a high seed in the Division 2 playoffs, could be a top four.
No. 8 Montgomery (12-12) (8)…The Vikings went 0-6 against the teams ahead of them in the league race, 8-0 against the teams behind them. They get Cardinal Newman in first round of NBL post season tournament.
No. 9 Kelseyville (15-8) (9)…They have their best season since 2008, when they went 20-8. In 2012-13 they were a combined 5-30. Two years later they are a NCS playoff team (or should be).
No. 10 Sonoma Academy (15-2) (10)…Has control of NCL II race with a two game lead with three to go. The three games are in three days, including a makeup game at Upper Lake. They have an 11 game winning streak and look good for a home game in the NCS Division 5 playoffs
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Savannah Stoughton (Sonoma Academy)…Averaged over 22 points a game in a two win week that has them on the verge of a NCL II championship. Included was a 25 point game in a 49-33 win over Calistoga.
