   San Mateo (Oct. 19, 2015) – Long Beach City College is the new top football team in the California Community College Athletic Association according to this week’s JC Athletic Bureau’s poll of football coaches.

SRJC Defensive Back Keilan Benjamin returns an interception out of the end zone for the Bear Cubs, one of 4 turnovers the Santa Rosa defense came up with on the day in their upset of San Mateo.

Former leader Riverside (5-1) fell to No. 4 following a 52-21 crossover loss at now No. 15 Fullerton during the bye week for many of the state’s 69 teams. But the Tigers are still unbeaten (2-0) in the National Central league and visit defending state champion and No. 16 Mt. San Antonio (4-3, 2-1) Saturday. Central leader Long Beach (7-0, 3-0) has a bye this week.
No. 2 Golden West (6-0) is the state’s only other National (state championship division) unbeaten and hosts Santa Ana (1-5) Saturday. No. 3 City College of San Francisco (5-1) leads the north after former pacesetter San Mateo (4-2) fell at now No. 9 Santa Rosa (4-2), 17-14, on a field goal with 33 seconds left in the game. CCSF plays at Santa Rosa Saturday in an early Bay 6 showdown.
UPCOMING: Northern California has two Friday night games: In the Valley League, No. 7 Modesto is at Laney. In the Bay 6, Foothill is at No. 22 Diablo Valley.Saturday’s games: Valley: No. 13 Fresno at No. 12 Chabot, San Joaquin Delta at No. 20 Sequoias. NorCal: No. 8 American River at Feather River, No. 19 Butte at Sierra, Sacramento at No. 24 Siskiyous. Bay 6: De Anza at No. 10 San Mateo.

CCCAA (STATE) PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:
Cerritos soph WR De’Jai Whitaker (6-5, 205, from Santa Monica HS): 6 receptions for 207 yards, 3 TDs — of 75, 24, and 37 yards – the latter the game winner in 31-28 triumph over Hancock. He became the all-time Cerritos career receiving yardage leader with 1,279 and has 900 yards this year (40 shy of Falcons’ season mark).
Modesto JC frosh CB Brandon Dabney (6-0, 190, from Manteca HS): 3 interceptions (one in the opponent’s end zone and one returned for a TD) in 56-0 win over Sequoias.
