Cardinals Track and Field Throwers signing to compete at four year Universities.
Just a week ago No. 2 Maria Carrillo looked like they were in trouble for a NBL Softball championship. T
They were one out away from a loss to Rancho Cotate with first place at stake, then rallied for three runs to get a race changing 4-3 win.
Now they are on the verge of an NBL championship.
After the 9-0 start of one run wins, No. 1 Casa Grande is not fooling around. They broke the nine game by one run winning streak with a six run win last Friday and they really let loose on Wednesday defeating Santa Rosa 14-0. The win not only raised its winning streak to twenty, but that combined with Rancho Cotate defeating Cardinal Newman 6-4, the NBL Baseball Championship is wrapped up.
Analy trying to stay undefeated in the Sonoma County League against resurgent Piner.
With the records of the last few seasons, you could have gotten pretty good odds that the game between Analy and Piner would have been buried deep behind the headlines.
Last season the teams won nine games between them. That isn’t nine league games, that is nine games period. Yet there they were playing in one of the biggest game of the SCL season and both teams were double digits over .500. They are both in the top three of the YSN365.com and the top five in the Press Democrat rankings.
Now that the remarkable run by Casa Grande of one run wins has ended, another pattern is playing out that although is not as remarkable, is pretty rare in most leagues that we cover here.
We are over halfway through those races and every race, except for one, has a first place team that is still undefeated. The only one that doesn’t is the NBL Softball race, where Maria Carrillo is in first place with one loss.
For one of the few times this season the SRJC offense was a no show and it cost them a Sole Championship in the Big 8 race. Two pitchers for Cosumnes River combined on a one hitter in a 2-0 win. SRJC ends the regular season 28-6-1 and 19-5 in Big 8 play, which is a first place tie with Sierra.
Rancho Cotate comes into this one with a half game lead in the standings at 7-1. Carrillo is at 6-1 in the NBL.
Talk about picking up your teammate.
No. 3 Maria Carrillo was one out away from a frustrating loss that saw them have two runs erased because a runner missed home plate. Then three straight singles capped off a three run seventh inning to give the Pumas a 4-3 run over No. 2 Rancho Cotate and give them first place in the NBL race.
