The Montgomery High School Boys Basketball Team is hosting the Russ Peterich Viking Tip Off Classic this coming weekend.  This boys’ varsity tournament is again the premier early season tournament in the North Bay.

Tournament days and times are Thursday and Friday (4:00, 5:30, 7:00 & 8:30) with championship action on Saturday (12:00, 1:30, 3:00 & 4:30).

The tournament field includes two standout local programs in Cardinal Newman and Montgomery.  The rest of the field is made of outstanding programs from out of the area.  From the East Bay, teams participating are Monte Vista (Danville) and Campolindo (Moraga)….both regular section and state playoff contenders.  Two new programs coming to the Peterich are Tamalpais (Mill Valley) and Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove).  A quality program from Reno, Galena High, is returning and a new entrant from Bakersfield, North High will be participating.

A number of these teams are expected to be strong playoff contenders in their sections and state.  Also a great opportunity to get an early preview of perennial North Bay League powers of Cardinal Newman and Montgomery.

There are a number of college bound players in the field so the level of play is expected to be outstanding.  Once again, come kickoff the basketball season right here at Montgomery this Thursday, Friday & Saturday.
