The Montgomery High School Boys Basketball Team is hosting the Russ Peterich Viking Tip Off Classic this coming weekend. This boys’ varsity tournament is again the premier early season tournament in the North Bay.
Tournament days and times are Thursday and Friday (4:00, 5:30, 7:00 & 8:30) with championship action on Saturday (1:00, 2:30, 3:00 & 5:30).
The tournament field includes two standout local programs in Santa Rosa and Montgomery. The rest of the field is made of outstanding programs from out of the area. From the East Bay, teams participating are Monte Vista (Danville), Campolindo (Moraga), McClymonds (Oakland), and Vanden (Fairfield). Liberty High from Bakersfield is returning and Eureka round out the field.
A number of these teams are expected to be strong playoff contenders in the North Coast Section and State. Vanden is considered a powerhouse out of the San Joaquin Section and Liberty is one of the strongest programs in the Central Valley.
There are a number of college bound players in the field so the level of play is expected to be outstanding. Once again, come kickoff the basketball season right here at Montgomery this Thursday, Friday & Saturday.
