The defending D4 State champion St. Bernard’s will make the long trip south to take on Casa
Grande. St Bernard’s went to Florida to take on Holy Trinity Episcopal. They lost 3128, but not
without a fight. Jack Rice threw for 275 yards and completed 1538 passes. He also rushed for
141 yards on 18 carries. As far Casa Grande, they were as bad as they could be. The Gauchos
only had 30 yards of total offense. Spencer Torkelson lead the team with only 14 rushing yards.
Him, and QB Garrett Buffo will look to rebound against a very good Crusader team.
Rancho Cotate @ Analy
Rancho Cotate will take the field for the first time this season as they sat out the first week of the
season. They’ll be lead by Junior Jake Simmons, who broke their JV Record books. He will have
many targets to throw to, including Logan Reese. He stepped up in the NCS playoffs for the
Cougars and made some big plays against Petaluma and Analy. He’ll be counted on heavily for
their offense. As far Analy, they’ll look to continue their 28 game regular season winning streak.
Jack Newman threw for 343 and 4 TD Passes in their win over Maria Carrillo. Newman and Spencer
Vogel will continue to be on the same page for the Tigers.
Piner @ Santa Rosa
Santa Rosa comes off a big win over Berkley. Isiah Steele threw for 205 yards in the Win.
Carlos Lemus ran for 105 yards. They’ll look to start 2-0 for the second straight year. Piner was
on the wrong side of a 59-7 drubbing against Montgomery. Tom Harris and co. look to come up
big against the Panthers.
Cardinal Newman @ St. Mary’s
The Rams from Stockton come in ranked in the top 15 in the State, after putting up 63 points vs Serra last week.  Newman scored 45, mostly in the air, in their road win over Fortuna.  Jordon Brookshire hit on 24 of 27 pass attempts and Damien Wallace looks like he has recovered from a knee injury suffered at the end of last season, with 8 catches in the opener.  Last year St. Mary’s won by one point as Jordon Brookshire was stopped inches short on a two point PAT attempt to end the game.
